There's a minimalist quality to this movie that is frankly amazing. Although I love the mystery to it, I wish the ending could have been more conclusive. None of the sequels/prequels/or what have you do the first movie any justice - in fact they take away what made it a great concept, do yourself a favor and only watch this one - you'll not find any satisfactory answers with the others.
