Review of Crying Ladies (2003) by Rocky S — 13 Apr 2006
Filipino movies are mostly uninspired rip-offs of American movies using lots of T&A and slapstick. Crying Ladies is the exeption and this is the only Filipino movie so far that I would recomend to my American, non-flip friends.
Crying Ladies is a comedy/drama based on the Chinese custom of hiring "crying ladies" for wakes/funerals to show that the recently departed was loved and is missed. Friends and family members who attend the wake and see these fake mourners will be fooled into thinking that the guy who just croaked was loved by everyone.
A Filipino movie with an actual story and no T&A! Finally!
