Review of Cry_Wolf (2005) by Deborah H — 14 May 2012
This film was a complete blind watch. I did no prior research before seeing it as I normally do. I picked it up a few months back in a 4 horror film set. The only reason I bought the DVD was because Slither was on there which I love. The other 3 films just happened to be added accessories. Cry_Wolf is a horror slasher film at its core. It is probably one of the more underrated ones that you donâ(TM)t really hear about nowadays unless you just into that kinda stuff. The plot is basically about a kid from London who is sent to a preparatory school of some kind. He is trying to get adjusted to the new people he meets there. His friends play a game called Cry_Wolf. In this game, the Wolf is marked on the stomach with lipstick. This person must keep it a secret that they are the Wolf. Everyone else playing must accuse their friends to prove that they are not the Wolf. The Wolf must hold his/her ground and not let people know who they are. The game is all about lying, accusing, and just trying to persuade others of what you are. Throughout the film though, the game starts to evolve into something very dangerous. Not to long ago, a murder happened around the school involving a girl. The killer is still at large. The kids playing the game decide to create and scare everyone by creating a fake serial killer and making its name up, what it wears, and stuff of that nature. Sounds interesting right? Thatâ(TM)s all I say about the plot ;).
My Thoughts: I had no idea what to expect from this film. I expected to be just your average slasher film like Wrong Turn or something similar to it, but I was pleasantly surprised by its outcome. There are a few twists in the film that caught me completely off guard and that I really didnâ(TM)t see coming. One of the best things about the film besides its ending, is how they create the Wolf. They give him a name, a back story, classic clothing, a weapon, and loads more of creativity. Cry_Wolf is a slasher film that will keep you hooked to your seat all the way to the very end. This one is definitely one to see.
Final Rating: I would rate this film a solid 8 out of 10. Itâ(TM)s more than just your average slasher flick.
