Review of Cry Vengeance (1954) by Richard D — 07 Jun 2015
An entertainingly mean-spirited little independent noir film directed by and starring Mark Stevens. Stevens plays a cop who was disfigured in the explosion that killed his family and lead to his framing for corruption.
Once out of jail, he heads to Alaska to kill the former gangster he blames for his downfall. He's pursued by the violent mob enforcer who actually framed him. The film is clearly modelled on "The Big Heat", and although it suffers from having nobody as engaging as Lee Marvin or Gloria Grahame on screen, it's energy level and unique rural Alaskan setting make it worth a look.
