Review of Cry Freedom (1987) by Girl-Melody L — 17 Jun 2008
Although Attenborough's direction is unimaginitive, the story of they way Donald Woods was transformed by his relationship with Steve Biko, one of the less internationally well-known heroes of the fight against apartheid, is one of the most profound ever told.
Everyone should hear the remarkable words which Woods managed to smuggle out of the country and which were given life for film by John Briley. Denzel Washington's portrayal is of a confident, intelligent man who "does what he likes".
