Review of Cry-Baby (1990) by Nelson M — 11 Jun 2012
John Waters is an underrated American film maker and his first attempt at a musical is one of his more amusing films. Taking place in his bizarre version of Baltimore, he exposes the aspects of square and hillbilly culture, obviously choosing the low culture as opposed to the high.
What we get is a silly, wild, and fun musical ride in one of his more underrated films and one of Johnny Depp's more overlooked performances which shows his aptitude for silliness that needs to be used much more often that his aptitude for the gothic.
