Review of Crumb (1995) by Michael C — 06 Nov 2009
A very entertaining and fascinating documentary about famed satirical comic artist R. Crumb. Crumb makes this film an entertaining experience, as he is endowed with a bizarre personality and very warped past that make him a figure very difficult not to be intrigued by.
Much of Crumb's actions seem repulsive, but there are several moments where he is also an admirable figure; despite his content and general demeanor, he seems determined to remain true to his convictions, a rarity among pop culture figures, and his less than flattering features do not push the viewer away, but instead entices you to learn more.
Though it is slow in certain areas, the overall effect of the film is a highly positive one, and is one of the more fresh and well-constructed documentaries on an individual in recent years.
