Review of Crumb (1995) by Alvin Y — 14 Aug 2011
Crumb, Great Movies.
I'm calling this a great movie for so many reasons even though it was released 16 years ago. This and "Hoop Dreams" are two of the most true and realistic documentaries I've ever seen. I say true because it features the life of a person and their story about hope and destiny. I don't wanna go plot by plot here to make it a little quick.
As you know, the movie's title came from the last name of this guy named Robert Crumb, who is once a comic artist who draws some "controversial" and "artistic" images of we can say naked women and even man eating man. This movie tells us about Crumb's story on how he became so good in drawing and also exploring about his family, and especially, how art can save his life. I lived in San Francisco now, and I don't think he is still alive, but when I look at his works and arts, I feel amazed and terrified. Why draw something bizarre and conceptual if kids know it is not appropriate for them? Well now, what is the whole point of this? I just wanna tell you, this guy Crumb is a gifted child, we can say he has a phobia to women or maybe hates them, but believe me, his wife said it's OK and not even referring to her. I don't know it's just a real docu and I can relate this to myself, or maybe to some people I know who love to draw and dreaming to be an artist someday. And you bet you're right, this is one of the best films of 1995 or the 90's because no movie in this decade that gave the audiences such an affectionate to the character and to his friends and family like in "Hoop Dreams".
And if you want to see this movie online, chances are that you will find this, or else you're in big trouble!
