Review of Cruel Intentions (1999) by Ibironke B — 12 Mar 2010
I don't like Reese Witherspoon or Selma Blair, but I loved them in Cruel Intentions. Sleek, stylish, incredibly witty and a disturbingly provocative storyline bring this film to the forefront. The plot goes nowhere and the dialogue seems daft in places, but it works really well for the film and actually compliments what Roger Kumble was trying to accomplish here.
A film like Cruel Intentions should be taken as it is, a stylized thriller that doesn't take itself seriously. The actors involved played their roles in such a vindictive fashion, it brought the film out brazenly; even though some of the characters came off confused and undecisive.
It's all in good fun and that's how the script was intended to be like.
