Decent, well made update of Choderlos de Laclos' piece to the contemporary Manhattan, with rich adolescents in the leading roles. Kumble's unimaginative directing is compensated by surprisingly solid performances by Gellar, Phillippe and Witherspoon.
Though the screenplay make some considerable changes in the classic material, "Cruel Intentions" still sustain connection with the essence of Laclos' characters and situations. It's not insightful and the exagerated obscenity of the dialogues is dispensable, but this is an entertainment and ocasionally sensitive picture.
