Review of Cruel Intentions (1999) by Renzo V — 16 Feb 2014
"A WAGER FOR SEX GETS MESSED UP BY LOVE".
'Cruel Intensions' is a teenage drama film from 1999 starring Sarah Michelle Gellar (The Grudge, I Know What You Did Last Summer), Ryan Philippe (Studio 54, I Know What You Did Last Summer), Reese Whiterspoon (Legally Blonde), Selma Blair (Hell Boy), Joshua Jackson (Urban Legend) and Sean Patrick Thomas (Save the Last Dance). Its story is a modern adaptation of 'Les Dangerous Liaisons'. With memorable kissing scene between Gellar and Blair. I especially like the well-chosen soundtrack of the movie. It had two not so successful sequels.
Handsome Sebastian Valmont (Philippe) and his stepsister Kathryn Merteuil (Gellar) are two rich high classed students, who like to make advantage of their sexuality to take revenge of humiliate people around them. While Kathryn wants to make the life of the naïve Cecile Caldwell (Blair) a living hell, Sebastian has set his eyes on having sex with virgin Annette Hargrove (Whiterspoon), daughter of the schools new headmaster. Doubting his success, Kathryn and her stepbrother make a bet. If she wins, Sebastian loses his car, but if he wins, he can have sex with her. While Sebastian gets to meet Annette, Kathryn discovers that Cecile has an interest in her black music teacher Ronald (Thomas). Who will win the wager?
