As violent as a Miike film can be but with a more conventional narrative. Fairly straight forward film making from a director known to delve into the bizarre and extreme.
Kinetic and violent, each punch thunders and crackles like splintering tinder. Oh, to live for those days when things were settled with a manly fist and not a cowardly gun. This'll put hair on your chest!
Easily one of my favorite films in the last year and never suffers from repeat viewings. There are few directors who can weave together humor, violence and heart as expertly as Miike can. His diverse film background grants him the understanding of the power of each element so he knows when to put in just enough and how much to put in. Just an awesome, awesome movie that brings a smile to my face be it with the landing of each punch or punchline. It fully entertains from start to finish.
And you cannot go wrong when you use great Garage Rock like The Street Beats and The Birthday.
