Review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) by Elaine C — 04 Jan 2010
This is one of the most beautiful and romantic fantasy epic with martial-arts action intertwined within. Two master warriors (Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh) are faced with their greatest challenge when the treasured 'Green Destiny' sword is stolen. 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' also features one of the most beautiful action heroines of all time, the astonishing Zhang Ziyi as Jen, the new governor's daughter who is much more than she originally appears. The heart wrenching relationship of Li Mu Bai and Yu Shu Lien is the most perfect example of unrequited love ever to grace the film screen.
The greatness of this film comes from its simplicity. Ang Lee's directing is excellent! Peter Pau's cinematography is astonishing, the fight scenes are incredible and amazingly choreographed, combined with a magical score and breathtaking stunts, I highly recommended it.
