Review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) by Civilzen H — 28 Aug 2010
First, i'll say I respect and enjoyed the choreography. but from there on, I think the movie was a disappointment. some of the underlying themes were good (like "being true to yourself"), but I tried to see the taoism in it, not there; tried to see symbolism, no; tried to respect the acting, Jen was psychotic.
Finally, I realize this is a pointless thing to complain about, but the very final shot confused and angered me (Jen jumped into the clouds and it showed her falling; yet for some reason, they cut to one last scenery shot (for maybe 2 seconds) of trees and mountains breaking through the clouds, presumably in the same vicinity). It was either a shameless attempt to get a pretty panorama to end on, or a failed attempt at trying to say something about her falling (?).
