Review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) by Gavin S — 04 Oct 2010
Absolutely marvelous wuxia recalling the films of the great King Hu. A young girl does not want to live the privileged life of a woman and has some excellent martial arts skills steals a sword donated by a legendary swordsman.
The swordsman and another warrior go after the stolen item, and in this time their feelings for one another also become apparent. Some of the best fight choreography ever put to screen made all the better by Tan Dun's pulse-pounding drum score.
The characters will defy gravity making for truly imaginative chases and moments in the film. Great sets, costumes, cinematography, visual effects etc. The film was responsible for reviving the wuxia genre.
One of the best films of the decade.
