Review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) by Luc L — 13 Nov 2010
Are these ratings rigged?
I don't expect people's opinion of any movie to be the same as mine, but this time it's really like we've seen different movies. I didn't see anything valuable in this movie. It's a pretentious, over-stylized, artificial, meaningless flick. The fight choreography is forced, the "flying" is stiff and you can almost see the wires transporting the actors. The love and lust scenes - which are totally un-characteristic for Chinese and for Asians - are inserted there just to please mainstream Western audiences.
Cheap, pseudo-philosophic, overrated. A totally unremarkable martial arts flick.
