A grand epic.
Ang Leeâ(TM)s ode to martial arts films is delightfully poetic. At its core is a painful story of unrequited love. A secondary arc of the rivalry between a talented student and their master is mixed in perfectly. Ziyi creates a character that is extremely talented undone by her impulsive and rebellious nature.
The set pieces are amazing and even the secondary characters feel rich and detailed. The music and fractured narrative of the fill add to the overall tone.
