Review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) by Margarita S — 26 May 2011

I saw this movie years ago in the theatre and then again yesterday as part of my new weekly foreign film movie night. It's wonderful visually. The tree-top fighting sequences are stunning and one can't deny the impressiveness of this power-packed moving-making ensemble (director/cast).

That said, this film lacks the subtlety and grace of other Chinese films, preferring instead to trade in its cultural demurenesss for a clearly 'Chinese-woodized', mass appeal production.
