Review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) by Alexander Z — 08 Jun 2011
This is the worst possible representation of martial arts flicks, despite two excellent battle scenes. I really wish western audiences were smarter than to end up choosing this one to be a pinnacle of the genre.
Poor characterization, shitty plot, absolutely useless scenes interspersed between illogical fighting interludes...I could go on. And I'm sorry, the wire fu? Horrendous. I thought it looked stupid then, still looks stupid now.
A very limited amount of movies have made great use of wires. This is not one of them. One of the more obvious examples of an overrated film.
