Review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) by Darien S — 07 Aug 2011
I haven't seen too many martial arts films so I can't say how good the action in this is in comparison to others but, suffice to say, it profoundly impressed me. The story, however, I can elaborate on.
"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" cleverly combines ancient melodrama with Japanese mysticism to envelop the viewer in an epic that immediately feels like a classic. The themes that resonate so strongly through all legends are found in abundance here: forbidden love, revenge, the elder generation versus the new, ect..
And that ending...breathtaking. Literally and figuratively.
