Review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) by Keenan S — 14 Jul 2013
Unfortunately, my first Ang Lee film was his god-awful Hulk film, but thankfully, this was my second taste of his films and I was blown away by it. This film is a beautiful, elegant, engrossing, and superb epic.
The storyline is beautifully written and has a very mystical feel to it. I also found the characters to be very nicely developed and quite interesting follow. While some might deride the action scenes as being "cheesy," in reality, they have a feeling of grace and sophistication to them - perhaps artful in shorter terms.
This film has a great story, plenty of action, romance, redemption, betrayal, revenge, and so much more. How can anyone possibly hate such a combination? In all honesty, you would have to have shitty taste in films not to appreciate this wonderful epic.
After seeing this, I can honestly forgive Ang Lee for Hulk (Though it's still a shitty film, make no mistake). If you love a film with a great story, you must see this sublime and beautiful epic.
