Review of Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul (2005) by Brian Z — 25 May 2009
This film shows Alexander Hacke of the band Einstruzende Neubaten wandering around greater Istanbul recording and talking to all kinds of local musicians. There is rock, hip hop, more traditional stuff including Gypsy and Kurdish music.
The subtitles (at least on Google Video where I watched it) were absolutely horrible, but you get the gist of the interesting things people have to say, and most of the music is great too. I feel like you learn a lot about the city in the process.
