Review of Crossing Over (2009) by Alex M — 28 Dec 2009
I liked this movie. Although I could see why people would rate it so low, I though there were enough interesting plot lines to keep the movie engaging enough.
I think the biggest reason why this movie is rated low is because there's no coherent single story. While Harrison Ford is the center of one story, there are other smaller plot lines that probably take away from the main one. This really makes it hard for character development and major themes to develop and relies mainly on Ford's acting.
The main plot is about illegal immigration and the emotions of the people involved that have to enforce it, and the lives of those that are affected by it. I don't think the movie did enough justice to the theme however and left a lot of the movie rest on stereotypes.
Overall, I thought this was an average movie that could have been a lot better if they focused on just one theme (Muslim prejudice, illegal Mexican immigration, Chinese/Korean life in America, etc.).
