Review of Crossing Over (2009) by A S — 03 Jan 2010
While overly sentimental and perhaps sometimes too simplistic, the movie tackles a difficult subject very much worth exploring. It has several underlying stories with minimal overlap, which I believe works well.
In order to accomplish what it set out to do, multiple perspectives are required without the unnecessary baggage of a climactic Hollywood finale. The movie's flaws are ultimately obvious, but its courageous attempt to unravel struggle--be it relationships or survival--is commendable.
