Review of Crossing Over (2009) by Jay L — 08 May 2011
"Being an American citizen is not a promise of success, but rather a guarantee of opportunity, unlimited opportunity.".
A hardboiled and thought-provoking thrill machine that's completely and seriously suspenseful. A powerful rush of wicked drama from Director Wayne Kramer. An emotional and hard-hitting knockout that pins you to your seat. Crossing Over deals in some very touchy racial elements and issues, it's very similar in tone to Crash. I was floored the entire way through the film as the hardcore and racial stereotypes were takin head-on. It's definately a controversial film that's capable of bringing an entire audience to an intense debate. It's a nerve shredding, brain-busting, racially charged and head-rackingly dramatic thrill ride. A film that makes the old ticker tick and the mind race, a film that induces thought, and I love that. Completely thrilling, strongly compelling, majorly suspenseful and quite gritty at times. A great film from Wayne Kramer and company, if you liked Crash then this film is for you.
Packed with star power the entire way. Harrison Ford makes a return to great acting, which is quite refreshing. Ray Liotta is great. Jim Sturgess does a good job. Alice Eve is drop-dead gorgeous and quite revealing as well. Ashley Judd and Cliff Curtis both give great performances.
