Review of Crossing Over (2009) by K. Linda S — 06 Aug 2009
This movie has many layers and portrays the lives of illegal immigrants from various walks of life, religion and ethnic origins. And does a very good job at it, although I must admit at times it lost some momentum and I found myself wandering off. Harrison Ford as the strong silent type made some of the scenes just a litttttle bit too drawn out. He doesn't quite carry the movie the way he's expected to.
That being said, the script is okay, characters are well formed, realistic and utterly believable. I especially liked Ashley Judd, who embodies her character effortlessly and perfectly. The movie is heart-wrenching without ever being sappy and stays with you afterwards, prompting you to think about the lives of immigrants in the USA, their backgrounds and their day-to-day struggles. Kudos to the director for touching on a very sensitive subject for Americans, the 9-11 terrorist attack.
