Review of Crossing Over (2009) by Aileen G — 17 Mar 2010
Even though this felt like paul hagis' crash with an immigration twist, was still a very powerful film. a real honest look at the achievements, disappointments, and hardships of the different demographics trying to make it/maintain it in los angeles.
might make the most sense to southern cal natives, as I am sure just about anyone can familiarize each character with someone from their own daily lives. definitely not the feel good movie of the year, but, and unfortunate as it may be, it's all too honest with it's themes of racism, elitism, and just straight ignorance.
that said, there's still plenty of understanding and compassion to elevate this film into the human side of things when dealing with a normally gross social portrayal of immigrants.
