Review of Crossing Over (1983) by John C — 29 Jun 2009
Very well acted and executed. A poweful story about illegal immigrants and how far some of these people will go stay in the united states and the desperation of expressing one's views and paying highly for them. Harrison ford plays a deportation officer who is haunted with the fact that he cant find the mother of this poor mexican child and is also haunted with the fact that someone killed his partner's sister and that his might partner might be involved. Cliff Curtis plays harrison ford's partner who is also stuck in another tragic situation about his faith and understanding that women in the united states are free to \dress and express their freedom and gets into a situation of life and death when several chineese men rob a convenience store and he is stuck in the middle. Alice eve and Jim Sturgess play two australian couples one who is looking to get his green card by pretending to be jewish and the other who coercred by Ray liotta to have sex with him for a green card. Ray Liotta plays a creepy government official who fell out of love with his wi8fe played by ashley judd and is having sex with the australian actress desperatly in the need of a green card. Ashley judd plays an attorney trying to help immigrants from getting deported and is felt helpless when she cant save a teenage girl after the muslim girl wrote a paper about the terrorist and the events of 911 and how she understands. The fbi finds out and dont understand her point of view and consider her a threat to us soil and is deported.
Wayne Kramer injects all of this and more in a two hour film which at times feels a little over the top but actors like Harrison ford, ashley judd, ray liotta, cliff curtis and alice eve help elevate this material and make it an unforgettable experience. It's reminicent of crash which came out a few years ago about racism.
Just in case you wantn to know what you're in for wayne kramer was the director behind the cooler and Running Scared.
A definite hit.
