Review of Cross of Iron (1977) by Jon P — 01 Oct 2007
At some point, war films usually degenerate into flag-waving sillyness; even Saving Private Ryan is guilty of this in its second half. Cross of Iron gives a slightly more gritty, realistic picture of the war; there is no glory, or glamour, on the Eastern front; just terrified men fighting to stay alive.
