Review of Cross of Iron (1977) by Alex B — 14 Mar 2009
This underdeveloped, homoerotic/misogynistic, perverse/disgusting/despicable attempted examination of heroism and manliness is poorly written, lacks any credible characters/characterizations whatsoever, incredibly features none of its main characters as Nazis (indeed they're all rather supposedly anti-Nazi), tries to make us believe in the Germans as defenders against Russian aggression(!), and indeed totally dehumanizes the Russians (and Brecht's quote, referring to the bitch capitalism, is misplaced/misused).
The only "good" thing about this film is the look of it.
