I'm a sucker for movies that I hear about and everyone says "OMG SO SCARY!" that, like a fool, I drop everything (I was in the middle of watching 'Babe, Pig In The City' for christ's sakes) and watch it.

Last time it was "Monsters", this time it's "Cropsey" a documentary about a supposed real life Freddy Krueger, who was killing kids in the early 80's. The filmmakers explore folklore with actual real life events, and find that, yes, the folklore is stronger then fact.

They follow the case of one Andre Rand, a man who is arrested and charged with these murders, based on eye witness testimony and not a lot of evidence. Through his history, we find out the horrible horrible history of the mental institution he was a caretaker of (there is a clip of a Geraldo Rivera doc on the institution that is really hard to watch) and his relevance and whereabouts to the kids that were snatched and never seen again.

The filmmakers also try in vain to get an interview with the irrational Rand, but to no avail. Also are interviews of various people involved with the case, some of them which seem to want to hog the spotlight whenever someone wants to talk about the case.

(Especially that woman who is determined to find the kids bodies.. I found her a wee bit creepy). All in all, the subject manner is certainly interesting, the documentary is well done, but hardly the scariest thing I've ever seen.
