Review of Cropsey (2010) by Thomas W — 01 Dec 2010
Who hasn't heard a Cropsey-esque ghost story growing up? I'd bet that they are near-universal (Children in Chad probably have their own version too). I used to think that the point of a documentary was to prove or shine some light on a topic of conversation/thought; but Cropsey doesn't really do this.
It investigates some but never pulls things together completely and leaves EVERYthing up to the viewer to decide what he or she believes. This doc takes place on Staten Island -- the dumpster of the NYC boroughs -- and the creepy, eerie state-run facilities the island used to house alone with a shady denizen of the city who found himself in VERY close proximity to a number of abducted children cases.
Saying that Cropsey has some disturbing imagery doesn't even come close ... some of the real photage caught on camera by Geraldo Riviera (yes -- him back in the 80's) made my stomach turn. This alleged murderer wasn't the only atrocity committed on that island! Through interviews and investigations, the suspect is thoroughly profiled .
.. and he is freaky. I know that isn't nice ... but watch the doc and you'd agree. The man is guilty as sin!!! That is just my opinion; but yikes! Cropsey stops-shy of making any major discoveries or revelations which does hinder it; but it is can still make your skin-crawl.
Disturbing ...
