Review of Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (2001) by David C — 02 Oct 2009
The Good:
It still managed to keep most of the charm and likeability of its 80's counterparts and although the jokes and gags were mostly repeats of the ones used in both its predecessors, they still managed to crack a smile on my face and on more than one occassion caused me to laugh. And the most important feature, the character of Mick itself is one that is just still likeable.
The Bad:
The film is outdated; feeling like it belongs in the 80's with its predecessors. The fish out of water cliches, while cleverly done in a new environment, are old and stale.
The Ugly:
I liked the fact that a lot of the development of Mick's character revolved around the fact that he was realizing that he was becoming outdated. This isn't really an 'Ugly' feature, but since the film didn't boast any real special effects or fancy sets, etc., this will have to serve as my personal opinion spot.
Overall:
I like the film. Was it great? No. Is it gonna' win any awards for great acting, etc. No. It's a film you buy for a few bucks and plug in every now and then when the mood fits and you want to see good ol' Mick Dundee use his Outback smarts to help him navigate the 21st century... It's a guilty pleasure like those of you who watch and still enjoy Weekend at Bernies.
