Review of Crocodile Dundee (1986) by Joey T — 03 May 2011
Say what you will about the cheesy premise and the fish-out-of-water routine, this movie is still quite humorous and fun to watch. Sure, there's the not so great effects in a couple scenes, a whacky look at New York City circa 1985, and a predictable plot, but it's still a feel-good flick.
Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski make for a good duo, despite being polar opposites in the spectrum of humor. Really, the movie belongs to Hogan, who brings geniality to his rough hewn character. Plus, he's hilarious.
About the only off-putting element to the film is the fact that it's set in the 80s. Big hair, bad clothes, lame music, and cracks about cocaine (pun intended) proliferate in the New York setting.
Fortunately, these are nicely offset by the beauty of the Australian outback, and the simplicity therein. It's not an outstanding movie, but it's one of the few out of the 80s that I remember enjoying both years ago and now.
