Review of Crocodile Dundee (1986) by Tony P — 28 Jul 2017
Unbelievable that this film was released in 1986 and as of writing this review it's main star Paul Hogan is 77!
Anyway the film mainly concerns the exploits of an Australian bushwacker Mick Dundee (Paul Hogan).
Dundee has earned the nickname Crocodile Dundee after surviving a crocodile attack ala the late Steve Irwin.
Dundee's Australian outback lifestyle is focused on by New York reporter Sue Charlton (Linda Kozlowski).
Sue is enthralled by Mick's lifestyle and takes him back to the big city environment of New York.
It is these scenes that made me feel a bit uneasy. You see Mick has never been to a city and I felt that the audience were getting cheap laughs from a kid with learning difficulties or such like even though this was not intended by anybody.
The illustrious filmographies of Hogan and Kozlowski reveal very little acting experience but the chemistry between the two lead to a fairly long off-screen relationship/marriage.
Most of the film consists of Mick exploring 'western' lifestyles including the obligatory is she a he scenes. A bit excruciating.
At least I can say I have watched the film now. It has only taken me a good thirty years to do so!
