Review of Crocodile Dundee (1986) by Greg W — 18 Mar 2013
Crocodile Dundee sets the Australian stereotype back 100 years, but it's not without plenty of laughs and Aussie Charm.
Thanks to Paul Hogan, Crocodile Dundee could not be more commercial. It's the most stereotypical Australian Character ever to grace the screen: Mick "Crocodile" Dundee.
Paul Hogan gives a hilarious and strong performance as the iconic Aussie character and when put in the Backdrop of an American it really displayed a definitive mix of Australian and American comedy. Paul Hogan is every Australian stereotype crammed into a single character, and the product is utterly hilarious. He's the high point of Crocodile Dundee.
Crocodile Dundee also examines the beautiful outback of Australia and the comparison between it and the commercial rush of New York, and the comparison between then and why I appreciate living in Australia so much.
All in all, Crocodile Dundee is a film for Australia to embrace because its generally funny and hilariously stereotypical, and because it has Paul Hogan at the peak of his success.
