Review of Critters (1986) by Jessi T — 05 Oct 2010
Critters was one of the many horror movies I watched when I was younger, but I hadn't seen it in a long time. I luckily caught it on one of my movie channels and had to watch it. Sure it didn't have the same glamour it had when I was younger, but it was definitely still an enjoyable movie.
Critters is basically a rip-off of Gremlins, another horror movie which I love, but it has a good story and some really funny cheesy humor. The movie is about a group of aliens known as "Crites", small carnivorous creatures that can roll in a ball like Sonic The Hedgehogs, that land on the planet Earth and they terrorize a family while two shape shifting bounty hunters track them down.
The acting is about what you would come to expect from a B-Horror Movie, but it doesn't stop it from being enjoyable to me. The biggest actor in the first movie is M. Emmet Walsh who was also know for acting in Blood Simple and Blade Runner. This movie also features a small part from Billy Zane.
The whole film series is actually notable for having some pretty well know actors like Leonardo Dicaprio, Brad Dourif, Angela Bassett, etc.
The movie isn't anything special by any means and I still love Gremlins a lot better, but if you just want to watch a movie for pure silly B-movie fun this is a good movie to watch.
I give Critters a 6.4/10.
