Review of Crimson Peak (2015) by Sonja B — 02 Nov 2015
Crimson Peak's plot is wafer-thin and predictable, Edith's ability to see ghosts has only the bare minimum amount of bearing on the story, and although the stilted dialogue of some scenes was clearly done with intent, it didn't add much to the overall experience.
Cinematographically, the film was very beautiful and the ghosts were, in all honesty, quite terrifying and memorable, but they were not enough to save the film. Perhaps I expected too much - Crimson Peak was less the clever supernatural mystery I was promised and more a standard thriller with added ghosts and a better aesthetic.
