Review of Crimson Peak (2015) by Hayden H — 20 Jan 2016
While I guarantee you, once the pieces start revealing themselves you'll know where this will go wayyyyy before the climax gets there. I did and you know what? I really should have. This is another horror from a mastermind of visual and emotional fantasy story telling, Guillermo del Toro. But yet it really feels like something Blumhouse productions (The Conjuring, The Purge, & Insidious) would do if they really tried at something different. Don't get me wrong the cast is great and committed and the CGI is amazing when it's on. Also, the sets, costumes, and commitment to Gothic storytelling are well done, yet the story fails to bring anything fresh to the table and fails at this golden opportunity.
"C+" is my final grade.
