Review of Crimson Peak (2015) by Nikky A — 21 Jan 2016
Crimson Peak is the type of film that has to be taken for what it is. The movie is a precise exercise in gothic romance and crumbling Victorian atmosphere. As such, the romance is flawed by modern standards and the storyline is more tha a little bit spotty.
However, these flaws are worth it for what Del Toro creates, which is truly one of the visual spectacles of the year and one of the greatest pieces of period piece set creation ever. Add in very capable performances by Hiddleston, Chastain and Wasikowska and you have a movie worth seeing.
