Review of Crimson Peak (2015) by Spencer K — 09 Mar 2016
I was really looking forward to this, and while it wasn't the straight up horror film it was marketed as, it worked extremely well as the gothic romance it really is. the production design, the set pieces and the visuals are astonishingly beautiful and the way the film looks is just exceptional.
I loved Jessica Chastain's character and I thought Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska were great, too. Guillermo Del Toro sure has a knack of creating a visually stimulating film, and that is on full display here.
I loved the gothic elements and I thought the ghosts were super freaky, too. I really dug this movie a lot. if you go in expecting a full blown horror film, you'll be disappointed. if you go in knowing it's a gothic romance film, you'll enjoy it a lot more.
