Review of Crimson Peak (2015) by Kaitlin K — 21 Mar 2016
Well that was interesting.
A-list stars in B-list parts, a cheesy and overdone plot, but amazing effects.
Really, this just felt like Hiddleston, Wakowska and Chastaine filming themselves playing dressup while doing their best Addams Family impression. Hiddleston oh-so-politely steals the whole dang show, but the girls seem content just to stand back and enjoy.
O hai gratuitous tushie shot. Bit too much of a good thing, there, tho admittedly that was one of the more tasteful sex scene's I've had to endure.
Honestly, if you're going to do something like this, you need to just dive off the deep end and go for it already. Make Tom and Lucielle vampires! Or Fae! Or SOMEthing! Honestly I was a hair disappointed at the big reveal (not Hiddleston's tushie, tho really Tom, have you no shame?).
That's not to say I didn't enjoy this Butonesque bit of camp, because I did. Like "Dark Shadows" (which KNOWS it's being silly), a more glorious 2hrs of high camp you will not find. I give it a solid "B", say 80%, but I'd also be tempted to give it an "I" for "Incomplete". C'mon guys, we know you've got it in you. Just a liiiiiittle bit more and I might have bought this on DVD.
