Review of Crimson Peak (2015) by Tjman09 — 17 Oct 2015
Crimson Peak is a scary, beautiful, albeit a little predictable journey into a old haunted mansion. Many are saying it's not as much a Gothic Horror as it is Gothic Romance, I beg to differ, it's more of a Gothic Thriller, with romantic and horror elements.
The film isn't the most original, as it seems like every horror film has the main character move into an old haunted house, but this film does put a different spin on it. The film is different in that it avoids the one dimensional ghosts haunting a person, whereas she's seen ghosts her whole life, and these ghosts are serving a different purpose.
However, some of the thriller aspects are so obvious that the plot becomes a little predictable. In the end Crimson Peak is a spooky, beautiful, multi-layered, albeit a little predictable film from Guillermo del Toro.
