While I love Guillermo Del Toro, Crimson Peak really isn't some of his best work. While it holds the standard engaging stylistic choices Del Toro is known for, the story is a bore, and drags out as long as it can.
While I liked the cast, I found it very hard to get invested in their characters and care what was happening to them. Go watch Pan's Labyrinth instead.
