Review of Crimson Peak (2015) by Zakk S — 06 Jun 2016
Incorrectly marketed, Crimson Peak is not a plain old horror film filled with jump scares, it's so much more than that. A gothic romantic thriller is what it is, and my goodness what a thrill ride this is.
The production values are extraordinary, from the derelict old manor that the Sharpe's reside in to the creepy clay mines down below. Guillermo del Toro has delivered another beautiful piece of work.
The casting is excellent: Wasikowska, Hiddleston and Chastain all deliver with bucket loads (especially the latter two). The only criticism I have is that the ghosts didn't look that great (but I guess that is the style Del Toro wanted) and that the first 30 minutes were a tad slow.
