Review of Criminal (2016) by Hazel H — 16 Apr 2016
Early in the movie someone describes Kevin Costner's character as lacking empathy, unable to see the consequences of his actions, incapable of compassion, and so on. I was thinking it was news coverage of Trump, but it wasn't.
. .although it still works. This movie is sort of like watching two films at once; the action and most of the acting is good, the basic premise(s) of the movie are ridiculous. Kevin Costner is a sociopath criminal and somehow the memories, emotions, and knowledge of good guy CIA agent, briefly played by Ryan Reynolds, is somehow put in his damaged brain.
So that is one premise I could not buy. The other is the idea that anyone with a laptop computer sitting in a Starbuck's connected to the Internet can hack into the entire launch codes for missiles.
So you have to get by these two glaring plot holes and just pay attention to the action and most of the acting. This is one of Costner's best films in recent years in terms of his role, too bad it's in a flawed movie.
Anyway lots of good action and if you can get around the stupid plot you might enjoy seeing Kevin Costner beat a woman to death with a lamp.
