David Cronenberg is known for futuristic settings and creepy throbbing flesh. This latest takes on both. Viggo Mortensen and Léa Seydoux play performance artists in a world where people can grow new unidentified organs.

This introduces the theme around organic vs synthetic life forms. That's about all there is for a plot. There are a couple of other story dead-ends that just confuse matters. Basically, it's a lot of confusing mumbo jumbo in darkly lit, grungy environments.

The actors are certainly committed, esp. Kristen Stewart's awkward manner. Add in the director's love for sinister pulsing organs and weird bone chairs and you have a surreal drama about human evolution that's slow and meaningless.
