Review of Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) by Andrea W — 12 Apr 2009
This genius of this film is the parallel between the stories of two different men who each grapple with their own ethical and existential dilemmas; one with a comedic element and the other highly dramatic.
The scenes flow very nicely between the two stories. I really enjoyed the philosophical narrative that occurred at the Jewish dinner table. A memorable moment was the scene where we watched Woody Allen's expression for at least a full minute as he went through the shock and heartache of learning that the woman he was in love with was engaged to a man he loathed.
This is definitely a far cry from Allen's other films, but it's absolutely worth viewing.
