Review of Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) by William Z — 05 Nov 2011
Suspense is usually reserved for a big action/scary moment, but "Crimes and Misdemeanors" takes that idea and makes it about choice, not action. One of Woody Allen's greatest films, the plot involves two stories that are separate from each other until they converge at the very end, for one final, very philosophical ending.
With dark comedy and timing that only Woody Allen can provide, this film is not just about the choices we make, but how we deal with them, and what it means to lose something whether it be material or abstract.
This is a gorgeously ambitious film, and worthy of your Netflix reservation.
