Review of Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) by Jessica O — 06 Aug 2007
Possibly Allen's best work. Ever. "Crimes" explores Allen's view of the world, where evil is rewarded, and virture is punished. In this complex exploration of religion, morality, and the general experiance of functioning as a modern human bieng, Allen's mastery of every scene is evident- most notably for his barely-fathomable use of Shubert in one of the most powerful scenes ever caught on film.
I rarely see films that are so shockingly heartbreaking, funny, and meaningful. Six out of five stars, may the grading scale be damned.
